| I've missed a couple days and want to get back into it.
Scripture: John 14-17 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
Observation: This is all pretty straightforward but how often do I forget that I, like Christ, am supposed to view others as BETTER THAN myself? Seek to help in THEIR troubles? Rejoice with them over good news? Mourn with them? How much of my mental life is consumed with "I, me. mine" instead of "them, they, theirs"?
Application: I can pray today for Jason's job interview..that it will go well. And that things go well with Dave's house closing.
Prayer: God, open my eyes to the world's suffering and let me view it, as Your Son did, as His own. Let me truly desire to pray for my brothers and sisters. Let me truly commune with them. Let me truly care for them. Amen.

| I'm going with lazy. Virtually every state has an "early voter/absentee ballot" option and you can usually register at the DMV or library (even online in many states) so I won't really accept whining about long lines. I also won't accept "they're all crooks". If everyone who thought both the Dem and GOP candidate was a crook voted 3rd party...OR made a concerted attempt to write in a candidate they DID think was worthy, notice would be taken. Voter turnout is usually only about 40%...even a "great" turnout is only around 50%. If the other half voted, they would be heard. As it is, I just see them as people who like to piss and moan about problems but have no interest in seeking solutions.

| We've probably all seen those "Today is the first day of the rest of my life" stickers and it's kind of a "self-help" cliche. What I am hoping to do is to begin to end the tight-fisted control of my own existence and truly make Jesus "Lord of my life"....instead of just giving that lip service. In other words, it's the end of "my" life of doing what I want to do when I want to do and instead choose to allow Jesus to work through me as a conduit as I am SUPPOSED to be.
One thing they talk about a lot in our church is the "3 habits" for Christian growth. They had a class tonight for Habit 1...which is developing a daily "quiet time" with God. As starting points go for growth in a relationship, actually TALKING TO and SPENDING TIME with them is probably a good beginning. :D I do go to church..regularly....and I do pray daily but the idea of me spiritually "starving" through most of the week and then trying to "gorge" on Sundays to make up hits a lot closer to home than it really should. I don't really have a set time that I sit down, absorb God's Word, see what He's saying to me that specific day, and then set about to "apply" it. So I went to the class tonight. Some of the ideas were things I already knew about from when Pastor Steve had gone over them in previous sermons. You need a plan for what you'll do, a set time of day and set length and a specific place (somewhere you can get away from noise and distraction). All of which is fairly common sense stuff...but stuff I tend to forget nonetheless. Steve suggested we view it as our "appointment" with God each day and that's probably where I need to go with it to make it a discipline. So...here's my plan: - Get up an extra 45 minutes early.
15 minutes of that is to wake up and make coffee.
- Use the Bible study plan that's printed in our sermon notes. That means tomorrow is John 10 (then 11, 12, etc. through John 14 on Saturday)
- Write down what I get out of it with the "S.O.A.P." method.
S=Scripture..the particular verse that jumped out at me O=Observation...what I think God is wanting me to see/learn A=Application, What I will do SPECIFICALLY with this knowledge such that I will see a change in my life TODAY because of what I read and P=Prayer, specifically focused around asking God to help me apply what I've learned.

| So, my intention to keep this updated more regularly is still weak but I'm trying more.
Here at Casa de Brady, we've had lots of "issues" with stuff lately. First the lawnmower died but I found a good one on Craig's List for $50 so that's all good again. We had a terrible leak in our basement ceiling that went through the drywall and left us with some mold spots. A friend of ours from church was able to trace it eventually to a water line that seemingly "went nowhere" (we suspect it goes to the malfunctioning icemaker on the fridge) and we shut off the valve to it. We still have to repair the torn drywall (I knocked out the sections with mold so it wouldn't spread) but our water is working. The dryer quit working (still trying to fix that one) and now the washer went out.
Sometimes socks or underwear or small clothes like that will get sucked into the pipe as it drains but I was able to take off both hoses and check the pump itself (it's clear) and couldn't find any obstructions. I'm getting the noise in the link above when the washer (it's a Maytag Performa, about 10 years old) goes into SPIN cycle. Anyone with any idea what it might be?
Outside of that, things are pretty good. M's been having issues with being behind on talking but it looks like those are because he's got a lot of fluid in his ears. He's having tubes put in on the 9th. Those of y'all who are Christians...we'd appreciate prayer for that to go smooth. We plan on putting him in karate later this year. He'll also be moving up to the next class in Sunday school next week...which happens to be MY class. So hopefully that will all work out well.
Good sermon this morning...made me think a lot about spending more time in the Bible and prayer. I've been neglecting that a lot lately. 'Till next time... | | |
| OK so I probably need to make a LOOOOONG post updating what's been going since I last Xanga-ed but I'm too lazy so I'll just do a "meme" for now. :)
45: Loverboy "When it's Over"
Album: I think the first one I asked for was John Cougar AMERICAN FOOL (NOTE: that is NOT me lip-synching but I thought it was a funny video) but the first I bought with my own money were these three: Amy Grant THE COLLECTION, Petra BEAT THE SYSTEM, and The Imperials LET THE WIND BLOW.
